Just One Night is a fundraiser organized by Sister Dottie Bair of the San Antonio Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. For Dottie, this is more than just a passion to help the community, as he was once a homeless LGBTQIA+ teenager himself many years back. He is desperately aware of the difference the right person, at the right time, can make in the life of a homeless teenager…and just as aware of what can happen when that helping hand never comes.

The idea behind the event is simple: You register for the event and set a fundraising goal. Between now and May 16th, you work to get friends, family, and co-workers to donate towards your goal and act as a bit of a spokesperson for the organizations we are raising funds for and show why this fundraising is so critical in our community. On May 16th, you will arrive at Maverick Park in San Antonio prepared to hunker down for a night sleeping in the park.

It’s a format very similar to a 5k walk/run or a bike ride, but rather than requiring athletic ability, it just asks that you be willing to sleep in the rough for a night. We do have volunteers and a law officer to watch over you while you sleep and ensure your safety. A luxury that the kids we’re working on behalf of do not have.

If you wish to sign up and just fund raise, without coming to the park event, that is an option as well for those in more remote locations or wishing to just support the event.

Our beneficiaries for 2020 will be: Thrive Youth Center and Stand Up for Kids. Two organizations that do amazing work on behalf of homeless kids in the San Antonio area.
